Co-writing, Percussion, EP, Oh My!

I wanted to provide an update on what was going for me musically right now…

Co-Writing

I recently had the cool experience of co-writing with another local DC Musician, Sarah Gilberg. It was a really fun experience! I met Sarah at a local gathering of female musicians where the whole group decided to pair up and writing a song on a topic. The overall theme for the entire group was “missing person”.

Sarah and I took this idea and ran with it – we ended up on the more specific topic of ‘gaslighting’. Gaslighting, as this handy Wikipedia article will tell you all about, is “a form of mental abuse in which information is twisted or spun, selectively omitted to favor the abuser, or false information is presented with the intent of making victims doubt their own memory, perception, and sanity.” To us, this took the missing person idea a step further – the idea of losing yourself into this sort of abusive relationship.

EP

My EP continues to be in the mixing and mastering stages and I hope to have a better update here soon! I’m excited to start planning an EP release party, artwork for the CD, etc.

Adding Percussion to My Live Music

This is a project I’m super excited about. I’ve recently teamed up with a percussionist who owns a cajon box drum (they look this if you have never seen one played) and started working with him on adding percussive elements to my songs. This is the first of many steps I plan on taking to take my live performances to the next level.

Guitar Lessons

I recently also started taking guitar lessons to brush up and polish my guitar skills. Right now, I’m working on polishing my strumming technique and learning different rhythm patterns on guitar.
